APBP Board of Directors Candidate Statement

Kenneth Voigt
Traffic Engineer
Ayres Associates

Please briefly describe your current position and how your work relates to the bicycle/pedestrian field:

Senior Transportation Engineer specializing in pedestrian/bicycle design, analysis, SR2S and new initiatives. Initiated the ITE/CNU Walkable Urban Thoroughfares and the Practitioner's Handbook for Implementing Context Sensitive Design on Multimodal Thoroughfares.

Why do you want to be a Board member? What do you hope to gain over the term of your Board membership?

I'm volunteering to serve on the APBP Board to share my experiences as a Past International President of ITE and a national Board Director for CNU. I feel my technical background as a transportation engineer as well as an urbanist can help blend the two disciplines into a connected message for APBP as well as both of my professional associations. Together we can partner with these and other organizations such as NACTO and APWA to increase acceptance and understanding that congestion is OK and safe as well as there are proven examples on how to design streets for all modes of transportation in our urban communities.

Please describe your goals for APBP and how your leadership on the Board will benefit the association.

My goals are:

  1. Provide connections to sister engineering and planning associations to expand APBP influence.
  2. Provide experienced leadership from ITE and CNU Board operating practices and outreach.
  3. Create more outside-the-box thinking on ped/bike initiatives.
  4. Increase awareness of APBP activities, webinars and resources to other organizations and the public.

Past volunteer/leadership positions with APBP:

My involvement with APBP has been limited to discussions with Kit Keller and using APBP resource materials for professional activities and teaching material as an Adjunct Professor at UW-Milwaukee and UW-Madison.

Past volunteer/leadership positions with other organizations:

Past CNU Board Director
Founder of CNU Wisconsin

Founder of ITE Wisconsin Small Communities Workshop
Past TRB Highway Capacity Subcommittee member Controlled and Uncontrolled intersections
