Street lighting - Best Practices and Innovations in Illumination Technology

Join APBP for the exciting webinar on lighting innovations. The panel will address the UC Davis experience with a campus-wide exterior lighting retrofit that involved installing over 1,500 network-controlled LED streetlights, area lights, post-tops, and wall packs. The “ultra-smart” lighting system has reduced the campus's exterior wall-pack lighting energy use by 86%.  The presentation will also briefly address bollard lighting and programmable lighting. Listeners will get an update on the current state of outdoor occupancy sensing, both commercial market-wise and codes and standards, including current research and resources for streetlighting and circadian wellness. The panelists will address Seattle’s 2012 Pedestrian Lighting Citywide Plan and the Seattle lighting design guidelines. The Plan includes maps with priority locations for pedestrian-scale lighting. Criteria include: pedestrian demand, socio-economic status, and street segment classification.

Frank Markowitz, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency
Nicole Graeber, University of California at Davis California Lighting Technology Center
James Le, Seattle Department of Transportation
