The National Complete Streets Coalition presents
Design Implementation for Professionals Workshop

Engineers, planners, program managers and other professionals must consider and balance the needs of all types of people using multiple travel modes. This workshop explores when and how to use state-of-the-practice technical design tools, and examines the flexibility already within them. Research and best practice examples will help professionals more effectively apply these tools back home. The workshop also delivers proven strategies to more effectively integrate complete streets policies and principles into everyday practice.

The National Complete Streets Coalition, the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers collaborated to develop this half-day workshop, which offers 3.5 professional development hours and AICP Certification Maintenance credits. The workshop will be taught by Roger Henderson, PE, PTOE, AICP, one of the National Complete Streets Coalition’s most experienced design instructors.

Roger Henderson, AICP, PE, PTOE is an accomplished leader in forging multi-disciplined teams to enhance how transportation contributes to healthy, vibrant communities. His focus is at the intersection of land use planning and street design. His 30-year career includes serving as Senior Transportation Planner with major consulting firms, the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency and most recently as the first Executive Director of a Business Improvement District serving an area where he designed a road diet. His skills include urban traffic engineering and street design, citywide multimodal transportation plans, public engagement, bicycle and pedestrian planning, complete streets and more than 20 years teaching university extension courses. He is a contributing author of "Context-Sensitive Solutions for Major Urban Thoroughfares in Walkable Communities." His expertise is leading teams of planners, engineers and landscape architects with the know-how to design real-life solutions that transform the built environment so that more people walk, bicycle and ride transit. Roger is also the President of the Board of Directors of BikeWalk NC, the statewide advocacy group for North Carolina.

Fee: $250
