APBP Board extends deadlines

APBP’s Board of Directors voted to extend the deadline to nominate a colleague for an APBP award to July 31. Awards are presented at the APBP Professional Development Seminar in Boulder, Colorado, on Sept. 10, 2013. APBP’s Board of Directors voted to extend the deadline for APBP members to file papers to run for the 2014 Board of Directors. With a fresh strategic plan and many new initiatives on the horizon, APBP needs and welcomes the enthusiastic participation of its members on the Board of Directors. The Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community of Boulder, Colorado Welcomes APBP 2013 PDS

Boulder has long been a respected innovator and source of inspiration for planning active transportation. The city is a leader in Complete Streets policy and implementation, has robust Bike Share and Safe Routes to School programs. It is ranked as a Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community. Remember, APBP’s Board of Directors voted to extend the deadline for the early registration for the 2013 PDS in Boulder. Board members responded to pleas from members whose municipal and governmental 2014 fiscal year budgets rolled out July 1. Click here to register for 2013 PDS in Boulder.

Monday workshops are not included in the PDS registration. However as an APBP member, you qualify for a discount when you sign up for any of the Monday sessions. Be among the first to participate in the newest National Complete Streets Coalition (1/2 day) workshop. Register for Monday workshops by 8/23 to avoid disappointment!




July 26 marks the 23rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). On July 26, 1990, on the South Lawn of the White House, President George Bush signed "the world’s first comprehensive declaration of equality for people with disabilities.” To celebrate, APBP member Kristin Bennett taught the APBP Designing Pedestrian Facilities for Accessibility course in San Marcos, Texas. Be ready for PROWAG. Bring the DPFA course to your community in 2013.

First APBP Local Chapter Established!

APBP announces the signing of a charter for the first APBP local chapter! APBP members in British Columbia acted swiftly after the presentation and organizational meeting with Phil Miller in Vancouver on July 10. Many thanks to Brian Patterson of Urban Systems and to the City of Vancouver for organizing and hosting the meeting of 25 members (and soon- to-be members). Welcome aboard!

APBP chapter conversations are underway in Oregon, Washington, northern and southern California, New Orleans, New York City, Chicago and a number of other locations around North America. These chapters bring APBP programs and the collective expertise of our membership to more professionals and to engage the community at large.
