The first-ever New England Bike-Walk Summit will be held on Thursday, October 7, in downtown Providence, RI. This event is presented as a closer-to-home New England complement to important national conferences.
The single-day event will offer nine panels (three breakouts, each with thee panel options) covering topics such as development/management of multi-jurisdictional trails, the economic development potential of biking and walking, state-level legislation affecting biking and walking in New England, how to foster better relations between agencies and advocates, rail-with-trail, and connecting underserved communities with walk-bike advocacy.
Travel reimbursements will be offered to agency employees; summit organizers are working toward offering CEUs for planners, landscape architects, and engineers. Registration is only $40 for the full day, including lunch and a closing reception. Scholarships will be available on a needs basis. Visit newenglandbikewalksummit.org to get more details, see the call for papers, and register.
The New England Bike-Walk Summit is endorsed by the Alliance for Biking and Walking, League of American Bicyclists, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, and others. The event is presented by the East Coast Greenway Alliance with key support from The Charlotte Foundation, Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, VHB, Fay Spofford & Thorndike, SRAM, Farmington Valley Trails Council, Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire, Bikes Belong Coalition, and AthleteReg.com.
