Since 2008, APBP has presented monthly webinars on a wide range of topical bicycle and pedestrian subjects. These one-hour sessions reach a wide audience of agency staff, consultants and advocates. APBP's webinars help to build and strengthen teams in many communities while delivering expertise for sustainable transportation. (View 2010 and earlier webinars here.)
APBP is soliciting proposals for webinar presentations in 2011 on the following topics. Note that you may also submit proposals for different topics*.
- Bicycle sharing programs
- Parking issues (cars, bicycles and buffers)
- Complete streets (focus on green streets, bio swales, heat islands, permeable surfaces)
- Crosswalk policies and design (including mid-block crossings, HAWK, rapid rectangular flashing beacons and accessible APS)
- Self evaluation in ADA transition plans, shared use paths, rule making (ADA/ABA, PROWAG)
- Bridges (retrofits to existing bridges for bicycle and pedestrian accommodation)
- Maintaining pedestrian accessibility in work zones (aka MOT-Maintenance of Traffic)
- Multi-modal Level of Service
- Bicycle and pedestrian facility design within a constrained right of way (also retrofitting)
- Using social media as a tool to improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities
- Design manuals and guides – Highway Safety Manual
- Bicycle lanes vs. wide outside lanes
Presentations must be evidence-based; innovative approaches that have achieved measurable results are most desirable. Please review our guidelines and submit APBP's Webinar Proposal Form (see last two pages).
Each webinar is one hour in length (approximately 40 minutes for the presentation plus 15 minutes for questions). Webinars are scheduled from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Eastern time on the third Wednesday of each month except in the event of a conflict with an official holiday (religious or secular). An honorarium of $600 per webinar is available, paid 30 days after the webinar. The honorarium will be divided evenly among the presenters.
*APBP will not accept webinar topics intended purely to promote a business or commercial product. Products may be mentioned during a presentation only if relevant to the topic and broadly useful to communities seeking to increase bicycling and walking for transportation.
